A urine test is performed in a laboratory to check your urine for the presence of substances that may be the cause of your complaints. Your general practitioner or obstetrician can use the test results to determine if treatment is required and if so, what treatment would be best.
Dropping off a urine sample
You must drop off your urine sample as soon as possible, but no later than twenty-four hours after collecting the sample. You can drop off your sample at any of Diagnostiek voor U's locations. You do not need an appointment for this.
Note that you must schedule an appointment by phone for the following urine test:
- Dysmorphic erythrocytes: You can schedule an appointment at our Boschdijk location via 088 - 21 41 149. When you report to the reception desk of our Boschdijk location, one of our employees will give you a sample jar. You can collect your urine sample in this jar and drop it off immediately.
Why do I need this exam?
A urine test is performed when your general practitioner or obstetrician wants to learn more about the function of your kidneys or urinary tract. A urine test can be used to diagnose urinary tract infections, as well as various other conditions such as sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in men and diabetes. Your general practitioner or obstetrician will explain their reason for ordering a urine test for you.
Collecting a urine sample
For this exam, your physician has given you an order form and a bag. Among other things, this bag contains a sterile jar and instructions on how to collect a urine sample. Please read the instructions carefully and in their entirety before you begin.
Depending on what test was ordered, laboratory staff will examine the urine sample for the presence of e.g. proteins or the microorganisms that can cause STDs.
The results
We will send the results of your examination to your general practitioner. If a tissue culture is needed, the test will take longer to complete. Schedule an appointment with your general practitioner or nurse practitioner to discuss your results. You can also check the results of your exam in the MijnDiagnostiekvoorU client portal. You are free to choose whether you want to look at your results before discussing them with your caregiver. It is possible that your healthcare provider has not yet received a full report because part of the results of your examination(s) are not yet available.
