Blood pressure monitoring 24-hour (at home)

Blood pressure monitoring 24-hour (at home)

With this exam, we will measure your blood pressure over a period of twenty-four hours. You will receive a blood pressure monitor that you must wear for one full day and night. During this time, you can continue with your daily activities.

Why do I need this exam?

Hypertension increases your risk of cardiovascular disease, such as a heart attack or a stroke. Multiple measurements are needed to determine if you actually have hypertension. If your general practitioner has measured your blood pressure in the past during their consultation hour, but they require additional information about your blood pressure, they can order 24-hour blood pressure monitoring. By measuring your blood pressure regularly over 24 hours, this test presents an accurate picture of your blood pressure throughout the day and night. This examination is available for clients aged 16 or over.

What will we do?

During 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, we will place a blood pressure monitor on your upper arm. It will automatically measure your blood pressure at regular intervals: on average every half hour during the day and every hour at night. You must wear the blood pressure monitor for a period of twenty-four hours. The cuff of the blood pressure monitor must stay around your upper arm during this period. Generally speaking, you can do anything you would otherwise do during this time.

Duration of the exam

It will take no more than twenty minutes to connect the device and give you more information about the examination. The blood pressure measurements will then take place over a twenty-four-hour period.
