To determine whether you are fit to drive, the CBR's medical advisor has referred you to a psychiatrist for a specialist examination. As part of their examination, the psychiatrist wants to have your urine and/or blood tested for the presence of drugs and/or alcohol.
Exam by appointment
You can schedule an appointment for this examination online. Schedule an appointment for blood sampling and select the option “Urine and/or blood test CBR certification” in the appointment portal to ensure your appointment is scheduled at the right location. If you prefer to schedule an appointment by phone, you can call us at 088 - 21 41 149. Even if you require both a urine test and a blood test, you only have to schedule one appointment. Be sure to bring a valid ID with you.
Why do I need this exam?
In case of suspected alcohol and/or drug abuse, the CBR's medical advisor will refer the client to a psychiatrist for a specialist examination. A blood and/or urine test may be performed as part of this examination. Blood sampling is necessary in case of (suspected) alcohol or cannabis abuse. A urine test is necessary in case of (suspected) abuse of drugs other than cannabis.
What will we do?
For a urine test, you must collect a urine sample in a jar during your appointment. One of our employees will give you a sample jar when you come in for your appointment. You cannot bring your coat or bag with you to the toilet and must leave these in the examination room. You will then return the jar of urine to the employee. Your urine will then be tested for the presence of the drugs in question.
For a blood test, the employee who will be taking a sample of your blood will place a cuff around your upper arm. They will then place a needle in your arm and fill one or more vials with your blood. You may experience some pain. After sampling your blood, you will receive a small bandage that you can press against the wound. Doing this for about one minute will reduce the risk of subsequent bleeding or bruising. If a bruise does form in the area, it will go away after a few days. This is no cause for concern. Your blood will be tested for signs that point to drug and/or alcohol abuse.
Duration of the exam
In general, it will take no more than five minutes to collect a sample of your blood. However, you may have to wait in the waiting room for a bit before you are called in. Collecting a urine sample will take circa ten minutes.
The results
