During a bicycle test, an electrocardiogram is made and your blood pressure is measured while you are using an exercise bike. This exam is also known as “ergometry.”
Why do I need this exam?
The purpose of this exam is to identify possible heart conditions that are caused or exacerbated as a result of physical exercise. An exercise ECG can also be used to assess your overall physical condition.
What will we do?
In case of extreme weather, we ask you to come to your appointment fifteen minutes early, so your body has time to recover.
You take place on the exercise bike. Before you start cycling, a resting ECG (electrocardiogram) is made and your blood pressure is measured. If the resting ECG shows any abnormalities, it may be decided not to perform the exercise ECG to protect your health.
If no abnormalities are found, you begin cycling on the exercise bike. The resistance on the bike will gradually increase. While cycling, you will wear a blood pressure cuff around your upper arm and electrodes on the front of your chest.
Duration of the exam
You will exercise for a maximum of ten minutes, depending on your physical condition and any complaints that arise during the test. The exam will take circa fifteen minutes in total. Please allow enough time to register at the reception desk.

The results
We will send the results of your examination to your general practitioner. Schedule an appointment with your general practitioner or nurse practitioner to discuss your results.
You can also check the results of your exam in the MijnDiagnostiekvoorU client portal. You are free to choose whether you want to look at your results before discussing them with your caregiver.
